After you print the PDF, the only thing you need to prep ahead of time for this craft is cutting out red strips of paper (Yellow paper would work too).

Cut out red strips of paper.

Cut out red strips of paper about 2-3 inches wide. You can get several strips from one piece of construction paper. This will be the dragon’s body.

Then, just gather your supplies and you’re ready to make your paper dragon puppets.

Step 4: How to Assemble

Finished Chinese Dragon

I recommend having a dragon that is already put together so the children can see what the final version will look like.

  1. Color your Dragon head and tail.
  2. Cut out your dragon’s head and tail (it doesn’t have to be perfect).
  3. Fold the red strip of paper into an accordion shape. Flip the paper back and forth as you fold.
  4. Tape the dragon’s head to one side of the accordion paper and the tail to the other side
  5. Optional: Color a popsicle stick with a crayon.
  6. Flip your dragon over and tape the popsicle sticks near the head and the tail (make sure you’re taping them to the back).
  7. Don’t forget to put your name on the back.
