We all know that crafting is super fun, but it’s also great for improving fine motor skills. As your young children cut-out shapes, and draw on faces, not only will they get to express their creativity, but they will also get some fine motor practice.

Step 1: Download and Print the Free Moon Craft Template
Download the Free Moon Craft Template. In the next step, learn how to quickly cut out as many shapes as you need.

Step 2: Staple and Cut Out the Craft Shapes

Once you have the Moon template printed out, staple it to construction paper and cut out multiple shapes at a time.
Note: If you want to make this craft with a group of kids, you can staple the template to up to 10 sheets of copy paper, 5 sheets of cardstock or 6-10 sheets of construction paper.
So, did you know, you can staple together 10 pieces of copy paper and cut out 10 shapes at a time?! That’s my SECRET to fast & easy crafting.
Stapling the paper is very important because it makes sure it doesn’t move as you cut. The more staples the better. Cardstock is the thickest so you may only be able to cut 5 sheets at a time.
Moon Craters
So, the surface of the moon is covered with tons of craters right? To make these, I used black paper.
The downloadable template has lots of different circles to look like craters and moon rocks for your little astronauts.
You can either cut them out by hand or a great option is to use a craft hole punch:

You can even use a small hole punch to make this a simple craft for you and the kiddos.

After you have your moon craft shapes cut out, move on to the next step – Putting it all together.
Step 3: How to Assemble this Moon craft
The kids will have so much fun making this outer space craft!

I recommend having a moon that is already put together so the children can see what the final version will look like.
- start by gluing on your largest circle craters.
- Add the rest of your black circles (craters). (I like how it looks having them all on one side, but you can put them anywhere)
- Don’t forget to write your name on the back

And you’re finished!
This is such a fun and simple outer space craft for kids. This paper moon craft is perfect for a Things That Go or Space lesson plan. And it’s easy enough for preschool, kindergarten, first grade, elementary, Scouts or just a fun craft at home idea.
