Step 1: Download and Print the Free Template

Download and print the Free Football Father’s Day Printable. You will be stapling the template to sheets of colored paper to cut out the shapes. Print as many as you need if you’re making this craft in a group setting.

The Football Card Template has everything you need to make this Father’s Day craft.

Tip: If you don’t have a printer you can always put white copy paper up to your computer screen and trace the template.

Step 2: Staple and Cut Out the Craft Shapes

Print the Free Football Craft Template and staple the pieces to multiple sheets of paper before cutting.

Once you have the print out, cut and staple it to construction paper and cut out the shapes you need:

  • brown paper for the football
  • yellow paper for the goalpost
  • white paper for the football laces

If you want to make this craft with a group of kids, you can staple the template to up to 10 sheets of copy and construction paper or 5 sheets of cardstock. Just make sure you have a pair of good scissors.

So, did you know, you can staple together 10 pieces of paper and cut out 10 shapes at a time?! That’s my SECRET to fast & easy crafting. Stapling the paper is very important because it makes sure it doesn’t move as you cut. The more staples the better. Cardstock is the thickest so you may only be able to cut 5 sheets at a time.

Tip: While you’re cutting, if you cut off all parts of the pages that have staples, make sure to re-staple the sheets that are left. Whenever you’re cutting multiple sheets at a time, make sure they are always stapled together!

Step 3: How to Make a Football Card

#1. Glue the laces onto your football.

#2. Make the pop-up section of the card. Fold a piece of green paper in half.

#3. Rotate your paper and cut two small slits in the center of the FOLDED SIDE of the paper. The slits should be about one inch apart from each other and 2 inches in length.

#4. Rotate your paper again and fold the tab that you just cut out downward.

#5. This is the tricky part. Open the card up and pull the tab through to the inside of the card. check out my Football Pop up Card Video with step-by-step instructions. If you need to see a demonstration.

#6. Now, carefully close your card and press along the creases. When you re-open the card, the tab should be standing upright which makes the pop out for the football.

#7. It should look like a pop-up square when you’re finished.

#8. Finally, just glue on all of the details. Glue the yellow goal post onto the background of the opened card and glue the football to the center of the pop-out section inside the card. Tip: make sure to glue the pieces ABOVE all of the folded creases so that the card opens and closes easily.
