Improving Fine Motor Skills

We all know that crafting is super fun, but it’s also a fun way to improve fine motor skills. As your young kids cut-out shapes, and draw on faces, not only will they get to express their creativity, but they will also get some fine motor practice.

The Compass craft template PDF makes it easy to cut out the craft shapes.

Step 2: Cut Out the Summer Craft Shapes

The template comes with two different size compasses (large and small). It also comes with multiple faces.

First choose the size you will be making. Then, choose which face: the God or Jesus compass.

Print the Compass templates that you chose to make. You will be stapling it to colored paper and cutting out as many shapes as you need.

The compass craft template comes with multiple faces and two sizes (large and small).

If you choose to make a moving arrow, you will have to print the compass back, the face with no arrow, and the arrow templates. You’ll then staple the compass back template to brown paper and the arrow template to blue paper.

Watch the Compass Craft Video for step-by-step instructions on how to prepare and make this fun kids craft.

If you want to make this craft with a group of kids, you can staple the template to up to 10 sheets of copy paper, 5 sheets of cardstock or 5-8 sheets of construction paper.

So, did you know, you can staple together 10 pieces of copy paper and cut out 10 shapes at a time?! That’s my SECRET to fast & easy crafting.

Stapling the paper is very important because it makes sure it doesn’t move as you cut. The more staples the better. Cardstock is the thickest so you may only be able to cut 5 sheets at a time.

Tip: While you’re cutting, if you cut off all parts of the pages that have staples, make sure to re-staple the sheets that are left.

Whenever you’re cutting multiple sheets at a time, make sure they are always stapled together.

Step 3: How to Assemble

The kids will just need to glue it all together and make it their own.

  1. Glue the face onto your compass.
  2. Place the arrow onto the face (do NOT glue it).
  3. Poke a hole with a sharp pencil through the middle of the arrow, face, and compass. You will probably need a grownups help with this.
  4. Push your brass fastener through the hole.
  5. Flip your compass over and push down the two sides of the brass fastener.
  6. Optional: flip your compass back over and draw a little black oval at the top to make it look like a hole.
  7. Don’t forget to put your name on the back.
