Step 1: Download and Print the Free Template
Download the Free Magic Reindeer Food Printable. Print as many copies of the poem page as you need. Tip: These poem labels work best when printed on cardstock.
You can stack multiple copies together and quickly cut out as many Reindeer food poems as you need. If you plan to punch holes in the corner make sure to do more than one at a time as well.
Next, print a copy of the ingredients cards. Tip: This works better when printed on cardstock. Cut out each card and fold it on the dotted line.
Step 2: Setup Your Table of Ingredients
To make this activity fun and easy, you can set up an assembly line on a long table. Set out your baggies, the ingredients (with measuring spoons and labels), then the poem, and finally the twist-tie or ribbon.
Kids will LOVE going down the assembly line and make their very own baggie of reindeer food.
For young children, it’s best to have an adult supervise to make sure ingredients aren’t being overused. Also, it’s good to have extra ingredients on-hand, when some run out.
Step 3: Assembly and Fun
Let the kids enjoy making their Magic Reindeer food! I found it’s best to start by pouring the oats in the baggie. Then add the cinnamon and sugar. And finally the glitter. The children always laugh and giggle as they add the glitter. Please consider using edible glitter because birds and squirrels may also find your reindeer food.
Then they can either attach the poem with a ribbon or just put the poem in the bag and close it with a twist tie. You may also want to take time before to read the fun poem aloud to the children:
Sprinkle on the lawn at night
The moon will make it sparkle bright
Santa’s reindeer fly and roam,
This will guide them to your home.
Make sure they know this is to spread in their yard on Christmas Eve. Even adults will love joining in the fun of making and spreading Magic Reindeer Food!
