Step 2: Staple and Cut Out the Paper Candy Cane Shapes

Print the Candy Cane Template and staple the pieces to multiple sheets of paper before cutting

Once you have the print outs, staple them to construction paper and cut out the shapes you need. You can choose to make a large paper candy canes or smaller ones.

Note: If you want to make this craft with a group of kids, you can staple the template to up to 10 sheets of copy paper, 5 sheets of cardstock or 5-8 sheets of construction paper.

So, did you know that you can staple together 10 pieces of copy paper and cut out 10 shapes at a time?! That’s my SECRET to fast & easy crafting. Stapling the paper is very important because it makes sure it doesn’t move as you cut. The more staples the better. Cardstock is the thickest so you may only be able to cut 5 sheets at a time.

Tip: While you’re cutting, if you cut off all parts of the pages that have staples, make sure to re-staple the sheets that are left. Whenever you’re cutting multiple sheets at a time, make sure they are always stapled together!

Step 3: Cutting out the White Stripes

To make the white stripes for your candy cane, just cut strips of paper about one inch wide. Stack and line up your strips of paper to cut multiple sheets at a time.

You could also give your children strips of white paper and let them cut out the stripes. It’s great cutting practice and wonderful for fine motor skills.

Step 4: How to Assemble this Kids Christmas Craft

I recommend having a finished candy cane so the children can see what the final version will look like.

  1. Either provide the children with the white strips of paper or let them cut them out on their own.
  2. Glue the the white stripes onto your candy cane.
  3. Optional: Glue on a bow or decorate your candy cane.
  4. Don’t forget to write your name on the back.

    1. Hi Jeanie
I have enjoyed your crafts all year. I am a pre k teacher and everyday as soon as I walk into the classroom my kids run to me and ask, “What project are we making today?” Not only do the kids love it, but the parents tell me how much they love it. Parents tell me they are not allowed to pick up their kids till after project time!
Thank you so much for these great and easy crafts.
      Fondly,
